Terms and conditions
The agreement between you and Remiam Limited for the Milometry app and this website. Written to be read, and without anything that takes away rights you have as a consumer.
In one paragraph. Buy Milometry once and you can use it on the devices your app store account allows. Your data stays on your phone and stays yours. The mileage and fuel figures are careful estimates to help you keep a record. They are not tax advice, and your tax return remains your responsibility. Nothing here removes your legal rights as a consumer.
The short version
- One payment through the App Store or Google Play. In the UK it costs £9.99; elsewhere the store shows the price in your currency before you buy. No subscription, no tiers, nothing to cancel.
- You buy Milometry from Apple or Google, who handle payment and refunds. If something is wrong with the app, we will put it right, whatever the store says.
- The app runs on your device. We hold no copy of your data and cannot recover it for you.
- Claim figures are estimates. Check them before you file anything.
- Do not handle your phone while driving. Set the app up before you set off.
- We do not limit our liability for death, personal injury or fraud, and we do not try to.
Who we are
Milometry is made and sold by Remiam Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 10829191). Our registered office is 37 Southgate Street, Winchester, Hampshire, SO23 9EH. “We”, “us” and “our” mean Remiam Limited.
The quickest way to reach us is by email at hello@milometry.com, or through the contact page.
“The app” means the Milometry application for iPhone, iPad and Android. “The site” means milometry.com, including the blog. “You” means the person using either.
How these terms apply
These terms explain what you get when you buy Milometry, what we promise you, and what we ask of you. They apply when you download, install or use the app, or use the site. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the app and, if you have just bought it, ask the store for a refund (see Refunds and cancellation).
If you bought the app from the App Store, Apple’s standard licence terms for apps also apply, and these terms add to them. If you bought it from Google Play, Google Play’s terms of service apply to the purchase. These terms also sit alongside our privacy policy.
Your licence to use Milometry
When you buy the app, we give you a personal licence to install and use it for your own purposes, personal or business, on the devices your Apple or Google account allows, wherever you are. You cannot transfer the licence to someone else, except where your store’s own family sharing rules allow it. We can only end it as set out under Ending this agreement.
You are buying a licence to use the software, not the software itself. We keep ownership of the app and everything in it.
If you bought through the App Store, Apple’s standard licence terms for apps also apply, and these terms add to them.
Price and payment
Milometry is a single payment. In the UK it costs £9.99. Elsewhere, Apple or Google set the price in your currency and show it before you buy. The price shown at checkout is the price you pay, including VAT or other sales tax where it applies. There is no subscription, no recurring charge, no advertising and no paid tier inside the app.
You buy Milometry from Apple (Apple Distribution International Ltd) or Google (Google Commerce Limited). They sell it on our behalf, take the payment, charge any VAT and send your receipt. We never see your card details. Your store receipt is the record of your purchase; we do not issue separate receipts or VAT invoices.
The price may change for future buyers. A change never results in a further charge to someone who has already bought it.
Refunds and cancellation
Because Apple or Google sold you the app and took the payment, the first place to ask for your money back is the store.
- App Store. Apple’s terms explain when you can cancel a purchase within 14 days, and how. Use Purchase History in your Apple Account, or reportaproblem.apple.com.
- Google Play. For the first 48 hours after buying you can ask Google for a refund from your order history. After that, email us and we can refund you through Google Play.
If the app is faulty. If Milometry does not work as it should, does not match its description, or is not fit for the purpose we sold it for, email hello@milometry.com. We will fix it or replace it. If we cannot, or it does not solve the problem, we will give you some or all of your money back. That is your right under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, and it applies whatever a store’s own policy says.
Digital content that you ask to download straight away may not come with a 14-day right to change your mind, depending on what you agreed when you bought it. That never affects your rights if something is actually wrong with the app.
Your responsibilities
- Keeping your phone and its passcode safe, and turning on the app lock if other people use your phone.
- Looking over the trips, distances, rates and costs the app records before relying on them.
- Keeping your own backups by exporting your data. See below.
- Using the app lawfully, and only for journeys and vehicles you are entitled to record.
- Paying for your own mobile data, if you use a sync destination that uses it.
Using the app while driving
Milometry is designed so you do not need to touch it while you drive: it can start and stop recording on its own.
You are responsible for obeying road traffic law at all times. Do not hold or use your phone while driving. Set Milometry up before you move off and let it run by itself. We are not responsible for fines or penalty points you get for using a phone while driving.
Figures, not tax advice
For UK drivers, Milometry applies the approved mileage allowance rates that HMRC publishes to the journeys you have classified as business, bands the first 10,000 business miles in a tax year at the higher rate, and estimates fuel costs from the fill-ups you log. For other countries it uses the rates of the scheme you choose. It does this carefully, and it shows its working.
Even so, every figure the app produces is an estimate for your own record-keeping. It is not tax, accounting, legal or financial advice, and we are not a tax adviser. Whether a journey qualifies as business travel, which rate applies to your circumstances, and what you ultimately claim or declare are your decisions and your responsibility. Rates and rules can change, and the app can only reflect what it has been told. If any of it matters, check with an accountant or with your tax authority before you file.
Accuracy and availability
GPS is imperfect. Tunnels, tall buildings, battery-saving settings, permission changes, limits the phone’s operating system puts on background activity, and phones being switched off can all affect what gets recorded. Automatic recording saves you effort, but it is not perfect. It can occasionally start late, stop early, miss a journey, or record one you did not want. You can always add or edit a trip yourself.
Milometry runs on iOS and iPadOS 16.4 or later, and on Android 7.0 or later. We cannot promise it will work on every future phone, operating system or car system, or that it will never have a bug. When something is wrong, we fix it. Always look over your trips before relying on them.
Your data and backups
Everything the app records is stored on your device and belongs to you. We hold no copy. That means we cannot recover your history if your phone is lost, broken or wiped, or if you delete the app.
Export regularly if the history matters. The app can write CSV files, a full backup file and PDF statements to a folder, drive or cloud destination that you choose. How to do that, and what leaves the device when you do, is set out in the privacy policy.
Other companies’ services
Some parts of the app rely on services run by others: the maps and place names built into your phone (Apple on iPhone, Google on Android), the App Store and Google Play, the storage provider behind any folder you pick (such as iCloud Drive or Google Drive), and your own network drive if you set one up. Those services run under their own terms and privacy policies.
We are responsible for the part of the app that sends your files. The service you send them to is responsible for keeping them, and for being available.
Updates, and what “pay once” means
“Pay once” means there is no subscription and nothing recurring to pay for this app. It does not mean the app will be developed forever.
While we sell Milometry, we will keep releasing updates that fix problems and keep it working on current versions of iOS and Android. Updates come through the App Store or Google Play, and you choose when to install them. We can only help with the latest version.
Sometimes a phone maker changes something that stops a feature working. If that happens and we cannot find a way round it, we may have to remove that feature, and we will say so in the release notes. We will never deliberately stop a copy you have bought from working, and we will never charge you again for a feature that was included when you bought it.
If we ever make a new, separate app, buying it would be your choice, and your copy of Milometry would not be switched off.
Things you may not do
- Copy, sell, rent, sub-licence or redistribute the app or any part of it.
- Reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble it, except where the law allows you to.
- Remove or obscure any copyright or trade mark notice.
- Use the app to break the law, to falsify records, or to make a claim you know to be untrue.
- Attempt to disrupt, attack or gain unauthorised access to this website.
Intellectual property
The Milometry app, name, logo, design, screenshots and the content of this website belong to Remiam Limited and are protected by copyright and trade mark law. You may quote or link to articles on the blog with attribution; you may not republish them wholesale.
Apple, iPhone, iPad, Siri, Face ID, Touch ID, CarPlay, Dynamic Island, Live Activities, iCloud and App Store are trade marks of Apple Inc., registered in the U.S. and other countries and regions. Google Play, Android, Google Drive and Google Maps are trade marks of Google LLC. Other product and company names on the site, including those on the comparison pages, are trade marks of their owners and are used only to identify them. Milometry is not affiliated with or endorsed by Apple, Google, HMRC or any other tax authority or government body we name. We name HMRC and the other tax authorities only to describe the published rates and rules the app applies.
Our liability to you
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit. Nothing in these terms takes away your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
If we break these terms or fail to use reasonable care and skill, we are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that was a foreseeable result. Loss or damage is foreseeable if it was obvious it would happen, or if both of us knew it might happen when you bought the app. We are not responsible for loss or damage that was not foreseeable.
Your claim is your decision. Milometry works out figures to help you keep a record. What you claim, and whether a journey counts as business travel, is up to you. We are not responsible for tax, interest or penalties that you could reasonably have avoided by looking over your trips and totals before you filed. If a figure is wrong because of a fault in the app, tell us: we will fix it, and your consumer rights apply.
Your records. Your journeys live only on your phone, so we cannot recover them if the phone is lost, broken or wiped, or if you delete the app. Please export a backup regularly. If a fault in the app itself damages your records, tell us and we will try to repair them or compensate you. We are not responsible for losses that a backup would have prevented.
If you bought Milometry for your business
This part applies only if you bought Milometry wholly or mainly for your own trade, business, craft or profession, for example as a self-employed driver, a contractor or a courier. It does not apply if you are an employee recording journeys to claim mileage from your employer, or if you mostly use it for yourself. In those cases you are a consumer and the rest of these terms apply as written.
If this part applies to you:
- we are not responsible for loss of profit, loss of business, business interruption, lost opportunity, or lost data;
- our total liability to you for all claims connected with the app is limited to the price you paid for it;
- nothing in this part limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.
Ending this agreement
You can end it at any time by deleting the app. We may end it only if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, and we will tell you why. In that case you must stop using the app and delete it. Ending the agreement does not affect the data on your device, which remains yours to keep or delete.
App Store and Google Play
If you bought Milometry from the App Store, Apple’s standard licence terms for apps apply to your use of it, and these terms add to them. If you bought it from Google Play, Google Play’s terms of service apply to the purchase, and to refunds in the first 48 hours.
Apple and Google sell the app on our behalf, but the app itself is our responsibility, not theirs: support, fixing faults, and dealing with any claim about the app all come to us.
Using this website
The site is provided for information. The blog is general information for drivers, written carefully and kept current, but it is not advice for your circumstances and should not be relied on as such. Rates, thresholds and rules change; always check the position with HMRC, your own tax authority or your accountant. Links to other sites are provided for convenience and we are not responsible for their content.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms to reflect a change in the law or in the app stores’ rules, a new feature, or to make something clearer. The date at the top shows when this page last changed, and earlier versions are listed at the bottom of the page so you can see the terms that applied when you bought the app.
If a change would reduce what you get or add a cost or obligation, it will not apply to you unless you agree to it. We will tell you about it in the app before it takes effect. If you do not agree, nothing changes for you: the terms you accepted when you bought the app keep applying.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you are a consumer, you can bring proceedings in the courts of England and Wales or, if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, in your local courts, and you keep the benefit of any mandatory consumer protections of the country you live in. If you bought Milometry for your business, the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
