£9.99, paid once. For scale, that is the approved amount for 19 business miles at 55p. There is no subscription, no account, no tiers and nothing to cancel. It was built because the mileage apps we tried wanted a monthly fee, an account or both, for something quite simple.

Your journeys are stored on your phone, not on any server of ours. To show maps and name the start and end of a trip, the phone asks Apple or Google, like any map app. If you turn on syncing, exports go only where you choose: your phone’s own files, your cloud drive, or your own network drive.

Yes. Recording carries on with the screen off and while you use other apps. If you swipe the app away mid-drive, Milometry tells you usually within a quarter of an hour and keeps everything it recorded up to that point.

Sometimes. Automatic recording needs location set to Always and, on Android, battery set to Unrestricted, and some phones stop background apps anyway. A trip that starts and ends in the same place leaves no gap to spot. Milometry looks for gaps between the journeys it did record and checks your odometer readings against the log, and offers anything missing back to you. You can always add a trip by hand.

Your phone leaves the place you parked at speed either way, so the journey is recorded. Two things stop it becoming miles. Quiet mode, from the bell on the Track screen, a Siri phrase, the widget, or a calendar event that mentions a train, keeps Milometry from announcing anything. And every saved journey is checked for the shape of a train or a bus (no corners and a steady speed, or gentle stop-start at town pace) and offered up for the bin, or binned for you if quiet mode was on. Tell it when you normally drive under Travel hours and other days go quiet by themselves.

Business journeys are priced at the approved rates for your country: 55p per business mile, banded to 25p past 10,000. Milometry bands each trip properly, including one that straddles a threshold. Figures are estimates, not tax advice.

The rates are built into the app and change when you install an update. After an update, the Mileage scheme screen in Settings offers any new figures, so check it. If a rate changes before you have updated, you can enter your own rate there.

It should not. GPS runs only while a drive is recording. Between drives the phone watches a ring around where you parked, and on Android an optional watcher uses the motion sensor, which is designed to cost very little. If you would rather it did nothing in the background, turn departure detection off and press Start yourself.

Almost certainly not. Ordinary commuting (the regular journey between home and a permanent workplace) is the most common way a mileage claim goes wrong. Tag your home and your workplace in Milometry and it recognises those drives and keeps them out of the figure, while still keeping them in your records. Travelling to a temporary workplace, a client or a site is a different matter, and that usually counts.

Not at all. Plenty of driving is just driving. Milometry records any journey, works out what it really cost from your own fuel economy, splits that between whoever was in the car, and shares a single drive as a PDF. A holiday can be grouped and totalled without a business mile anywhere near it.

Yes. Export a CSV from your old app or a spreadsheet, then match its columns to Milometry in the import wizard. Duplicates of trips you already have are skipped.
